Today we were exhausted
By errands and doctor’s
Appointments and went
To bed early to read for a few
Hours without bothering
Each other lying side
By side turning
Pages then to
Sleep just
Turning
In the
Heat
Fan
On cool,
Ruffling breeze
Across us as we fell
Asleep early eyes
Too tired to stay
Open to read
Another
Page.
At
About
2 o’clock
We noticed
Each other next
To us cooler now
Closer delicately in
Contact but not pressing
Just a comfortable
Touch then more
Until we later
Turned on
The
Light laughing
Taking a late-night
Shower each
Wondering
How we
Got
So
Lucky
At 2 o’clock
In the morning.
