Pace

Who sets the pace
Often wins the race,
Relationships tend
To be steered 60-40
By one or the other
Depending on the
Situation if the
Couple is to
Stay together.
She has a doctor’s
Appointment and
I am eager to get
Going so as not
To be late but
She handles one
Item after another
Unrelated to our
Departure so I
Wonder if it is
On purpose or
A better sense
Of time
In
Southern California,
I am new here and
In any case hung up
On this completion thing.
I would worry about being
Late to my own cremation.
Brings to mind the man
Standing in a horse-drawn
Cart being taken tied up to
His hanging shouting
Down to those running
Pushing to get ahead
That the main event
Would not occur until
He got there.
Perhaps patience and
Silence are my best
Tools to handle
My impatience
To get to the
Main event
On time
Even
Though
I am only
The cart driver
Not the main
Attraction.
When it
Is my
Appointment
I will be the 60
To her 40,
And so
We
Shift
Control
To both feel
In the driver’s seat.
We are both
Grinders
Pushy
Used
To
Getting our way
But learning
To adjust
To our
Way.
