Red Dog

Rosie the red dog
Took to me the first day
I arrived in Encinitas,
Her devotion has humbled me.
She barks fiercely at anything that Enters the yards to protect
Carol and I, her pack.
Each dawn first thing
And each dusk last thing
I feed Rosie and the cats
Beni and Ellie saying to Rosie,
“The pack hunts, the pack eats.”
From Rosie the red dog
I have relearned the
Value of devotion
And the love of
The pack as
A family.
Carol
Observes
Smiles
Gives
Me
Her glance
Of contentment
As her new right hand,
Surreptitiously
Looking at
Her new
Gold ring
On her left hand.
