Why II

Why do you go to sea
When love is near on land,
New things to see
New places to go
Old memories to lose
Upon the bounding main.
Does adventure beckon
So strong to overbalance
Those we love on land,
Or are we only what we are
When we move forward
To new places things people
Friends to meet though
It is much the same ashore.
So why sail over the sea,
Same reason for going
Into the wilderness,
Sea air like pine scent
Thrills the heart
And mind like
Heavy rain
In a narrow
Wilderness
Canyon
Or
A rogue
Wave at sea,
An excitement
In danger wakes
Some part of
Our being
Dormant
In front
Of a
TV.
I
Remember
Sailing away
From Monte Carlo
At dusk when the sea
Suddenly went flat like
Glass then I realized
The wind must be
Tremendous as
It raced down
The Alps to
Lay the
Waves
Flat,
Then
The ship
Turned and
The wind from
Astern hit us broadside
Pushing the ship over hard
Rolling far over spilling the water
In the Lifo pool across the deck
Over the ship’s side piling up
Deck chairs with the pool water
Until some calm bridge officer
Steered the great ship out of
The wind to back astern
As we headed out
To sea safe once
Again many
Hearts
Pounding
Who knew how
Close we had come
Now with
Smiles
On our face
Members of those
Who know how easily
Wisdom beats knowledge
Though silence of
Secrets is
Hard.
