Bonfire

Home again from the sea
To the open arms of my love
Who embraced me then
Told me she needed a
Bit more space and
I might have to go.
Her grown son
And daughter
Asked her to
Tell me she
Had told
Them
She was
Unhappy,
She sleeps
Tonight at her
Son’s house as I
Feed our dog Rosie
And the cats not
Knowing if she
Will tell me
To leave.
I pour
My
Heart
Into these
Poems for they
Are as Bunyan said,
The bonfire of my vanities.
What will happen I do not
Know though I care for
Her as my true love
While she feels
Affection for
Me which
She has
Meant
By
Saying
Love.
I was blind
To her need for
Independence trying
To help her remember
Everyday things she
Needed to live day
To day but she
Saw it as too
Controlling
And she
Was
Right.
Now will
She compromise
With me to try and
Save our relationship
Or will she end our
Year of living as
A couple,
To live
Alone
But
Independent.
And what
Have
I
Learned?
Given my vanities
It is dangerous
To play with
Matches
Not
Made
In heaven.
