Forgiveness

What ever happened to
Forgiveness in America?
We revile appeals to just be
Friends or to live and let live which
Used to be our best quality in our
National make-up but now are
Disparaged as weakness in a
Person rather like the vicious
Malaise that caused ancient
Greece to commit suicide
In their Peloponnesian
War which opened
The door to Phillip
And Alexander of
Macedonia thus
Ending Greek
Free society.
We are too
Bent on a
Revenge,
Too apt
To be
Vituperative
Toward any who
Fail to watch our news
Channel and judging past
Behavior by today’s fad
Morals and gender
Ethics all of us
Unwilling to
Compromise.
If we are to survive together
As a representative democracy
Then we must forgive the past
And resolve to compromise
What we cannot agree on
Without revenge or moral
Certainties that only our
Side thinks are true or
Good but with love
For our American
Citizens allowing
Hope for others
In the world
Who have
Only us
For
Their
Future
Happiness
Or was Lincoln
Wrong and are we
Not the last great
Hope of the
World?
