Champions

New

I am 73 at 6:30 am fixing a
Breakfast of champions for
One red dog and two black
And white cats all of whom
Act like professional athletes
Supremely above mere mortals
Waiting for their just desserts
Which if I place in a new location
Are simply unacceptable to them
Though the dog tries to eat the
Cat food and vice versa each after
They finish their own then pretend
They have not been fed when Carol
Comes downstairs in her red robe
Rather like a blind mole searching
For coffee and CNN with perhaps
A bowl of my cereal blend of three
Parts raw rolled oats one part Post
Grape nuts with bits of walnuts and
Perhaps a diced date all in two per
Cent milk which allows her a true
Breakfast of champions while I sip
Tea at Swamis cafe playing hi and
Bye on my cell phone texts with
Some Nigerian scammers
And the sun shines
Brighter through
The palms and
Pines as I
Read a
Book
In Southern
California in Encinitas
Until proven
Guilty of
Being
Happy.
