Cheers
The cheers roll
Across the cafe
From those closest
To the TV where the
American women’s team
Has scored a goal all the way
To the window booths where am
Ensconced like a favored pillow
In good light reading Napier’s
Account of the Peninsular
War where Wellington
Is creating a legend
For the British to
Strive to match
For the next
Hundred
Years
Until the
Great War
Brought them
Back to reality
A lesson we may
Hope to emulate at
The risk of terminating
Our brief time in earthly
Paradise or pain but
Always dear to us.
The cheers roll
On and I find
The crowd’s
Enthusiasm
A pleasure
Though
I do not
Know
Who won.
Still, it is the
Voyage not the
End that have to
Enjoy so either way
I am delighted to be
Be sitting here now,
She tells me I have
More lives than a
Cat but I am well
Aware cats do
Not last for
Ever so all
I ask is to
Savor
Each
Day
And my
Cup of tea.
