Dream

The American
Dream began to
Die when the middle
Class ceased to be properly
Rewarded under Reagan the
Most middle class of Presidents
Because he trusted the rich to be
Fair and they have not, preferring
To hide behind their tax laws to
Benefit the rich at the expense
Of the middle class which I
First noticed when my
Most sincere male
Students began
To wear their
Baseball
Caps on
Backwards
In unconscious
Imitation of the hard
Luck kids of the 1930s
Then by their hiding behind
Tattoos as their poverty and
Failure to thrive in a society
Set up to benefit only the
Rich left many vaguely
Aware something had
Gone wrong with the
American Dream to
Work hard and be
Rewarded with a
Life like their
Parents had
Known but
Would not
Return
Until
We tax
The assets
Of the rich as
Well as Their income
Though the rich would
Rather destroy our country
Than give up their wealth which
Was created by the middle class
A tragedy Reagan would fight
If he were here now but there
Is no Reagan left in the new
Republican Party that is
Inflexible as the old
Democratic Party
Due to the tragic
Substitution of
Faith for fact
As if the old
Party were
Struck
Blind
On the
Road to
Another war
In Damascus
And the Middle
East where we fought
To throw ourselves
Out of paradise in
A war to distract
Us from the
Death of
The American Dream.
