Jacaranda

New

In the 1970s
I am late-20s
Pulling alongside
The road east of the
Zacatecas silver market
In the desert awestruck at
My first look at a jacaranda
Tree’s bright blue flowers against
The beige one story houses next
To a small fountain surrounding
Dusty streets and a pale blue
Spring sky mesmerized by
A big tree covered with
Vibrant blue flowers
In contrast to the
Poverty trashed
Village in the
Middle of
Nada;
Today I
Drive up
The road
To where I
Live north of
San Diego passing
One jacaranda after
Another then on lawns
Even the one across the
Street and consider fortune
And my good luck to live
Within sight of the blue
Jacaranda across the
Street rather than
The one in the
Tiny plaza by
A road deep
In Mexico
If the
Jacaranda tree
Is even still there
Or the road still
Safe to drive
To see the
Blue
Flower
Blossoms.
