Odd
I am six in southern
Illinois where the rivers
Flow and the prairies roll
Sitting at the kitchen table
Sticking clove bits into a large
Orange about half an inch apart
To make an aromatic Christmas
Decoration for our tree which
Makes an odd ornament that
Does not rot but dries still
Sweet with the blended
Scents of orange and
Clove which we also
Use the oil of for
Toothache with
A drop or two
To deaden
The pain
While
We
Boil
Orange
Slices with
Cinnamon to
Make the winter
House less
Pungent
From
Six
Kids
Awaiting
Spring cleaning
While outside the
Wind howls snow falls
Skies are gray and
Trees bare unlike
Our warm storm
Refuge orange
And clove
Scented
Like our
Fingers,
Old memories
Are our life
Rudders
Making
Us odd
Ornaments.
