Gaudi

New

I am 71 looking up
At Gaudi’s Church with
My sister Susan as we stand
In the street where Gaudi died
Looking at his dream cathedral
When he was struck by a streetcar
And I am amazed that the cone
Tall towers look so much like
Penitent’s hats which look
Like something from the
Inquisition with the jaw
Shaped window the
Mouth of hell but
Heavenly light
Floods the
Church
Interior glowing
Blue on one side
And yellow on the
Other the complete
Reverse of the exterior
And I begin then see why
Gaudi was a devout Catholic
As it is just so with the old
Catholic faith in Spain
Which appears dark
From the historical
Outside but gives
Hope purpose
Protection
For those
On the
Inside
Who
I had not
Considered
As a historian
But recognize at
Once as an object
Of art created by
Gaudi almost
Against any
Catholic
Church
Help,
A Milagro
Architectural
Accomplishment.
