Chapel

New

I am ten a boy
In southern Illinois
With patched jeans
Meeting my great aunt
Who has stopped by to visit us,
She owns a wedding chapel across
The street from Disneyland in far
Off California where her son one
Day would teach history in the
Bay Area and I wonder what
It would be like to live near
Her in sunny Southern
California near the
Pacific Ocean in
Palms and pines
And eucalyptus
Trees thinking
Of one of my
Aunt’s palm
Island
Drawing
On my grandma’s
Bedroom wall parsing
Coconuts instead of pop
Corn sleeping on the pews
In my great aunt’s chapel
And now I do live in this
Paradise of warm to
Cool weather not
Hot to freezing
Where flowers
Bloom all year
Though I’ve
Never seen
The chapel
Which most
Likely no longer
Exists amid motels
But I remember
My great aunt
Who was so
Charming,
Like a
Cool
Pacific breeze.
And, yes, I am
Thankful.
