One should strive
For perfection but see
Reality makes exclusivity
More often a goal than an
Accomplishment and if
This seems too harsh
Try settling for doing
The best we can to
Act honorably and
Expect the same
From the one
We live with
Though if
We only
Date,
Exclusivity
Seems a goal
Too doubtful to
To be insisted upon
Given we must take it
On the word of the person
So why ask them to lie
When really loyalty
Is less of a virtue
Than altruism.
If you require
Assurance
Of dating
Exclusivity
Either prepare
To be gullible or
Live together with
Established rules
Though human
Hearts are too
Wild to hold
Except by
Love not
Of self
But of
The other.
