Debt is debt
Sums up what
We owe another
The question being
Do we pay or betray
And abandon our debt
Which is a function of our
Character or lack thereof to
Shoulder what is owed right to
The bitter end which is called
Marriage by some and passé
By those to whom an oath is
Only words as God is passé
So why stay to help when
One can rationalize our
Quitting as the smart
Thing to do which is
An all too common
Dilemma if your
Partner spouse
Falls to some
Physical or
Mental
End
But lingers
On for years
Or decades so
What is the right
Thing to do for them?
Help them nursing their
Infirmities as long as you
Can then get them what help
You can and get busy living again
As our debt to our partner spouse is
Bounded by honor only as far as we
Are able and if we go to our limit
Then we have done all that we
Can do and so fulfilled our
Debt though it is sad to
See some betray and
Abandon so quickly
While others stay
Until they are
Consumed
By grief
And
Overpay
Their debt
In a bitter suttee
Ceremony of useless
Self-immolation a
Bonfire of the
Vanities.
