Veil

On Halloween
Night the veil we
Keep between our
Childhood nightmares
And our comfortable view
Of the world as we choose
To see it is at its thinnest and
For an evening we feel a slight
Uncomfortableness with ghosts
From our or others past taken
Aback to crouching around
A cave campfire adding
Sticks to the flame to
Drive away more
Than the cold
More than
The dark,
But we
Know
Not
What
We sense
Is there and
Most especially
On Halloween
Night when
The veil
May
Push
Aside
To reveal
What we feel
Is always there:
Call it Death
Or Inland
Revenue
Or IRS,
Lurking
Watching
Waiting
Beyond the veil.
