Landscape
The landscape
In rural southern
California looks like
A Thomas Heart Benton
Painting of beige soft curved
Hills dotted with oaks looking
Just like one of his rustic
Views of America from
A train window much
Like it used to be
Clumps of oaks
Here and there
But now with
Eucalyptus
Further on
South as
More
palms
And pines
Begin to show
A diversity as fresh
As the people who either
Clump in neighborhoods or blend
Into surfer savants and those
Who follow the Swami to
Get a cup of coffee
At a cafe a peek
At how we are
All headed to
One day not
Too distant
All us just
Hangin’.
