Fur

I awake to the cold
Breeze coming through
The window open a bit as
Normal any season and see
A circle of fur twice the size of
A volleyball with two tiny parallel
Legs in the center bottom and two
Tiny eyes ears sets of whiskers all
In black and white as the cat has
Decided it is her breakfast time
So I should get up and feed
Her right now her solemn
Stare steady insistent
So I hide under the
Coverlet snugging
Warmth as she
Slowly steps
On top of
My chest
Heavy
On my
Mind
Until I
Slowly roll
Over trying
To ignore this
Oversized fur ball
But in the end it is easier
To feed the pets than sleep
With them on or around me as
I am Dan’s deflated ego giving in
To the iron will of two black and
White cats and a red dog all of
Whom are hungry so I start
The pet feeding routine
Shutting the door that
Is always left open to
The garden at night
Turning on the heat
Pulling on my gray
Jacket getting a
Cup of hot tea
With lemon
As I listen
To news
Check
Cell
Phone and
Read into the day.
