Card
Whether a card
Or text I am touched
By the kindness of my
Friends and family who
Remember what I did not
Expect any to remember in
The backwash of the holidays
Clean up from many decorations
Christmas trees Hanukkah bushes
At the start of deep winter or in
Australia summer and I am
Reminded of a customs
Stop in Darwin when
I was told to take off
My shoes to pass
Through a portal
So I pulled the
Chair closer
To portal
Took off
My prosthetic
Preparing to hobble
Through, something I can
No longer do with two prosthetics,
But the woman in charge came
Over took one look and told
Me to put back on the
Prosthetic and walk
On so I did not say
Nay but I was
Struck by her
Common
Sense
Much
Appreciated
Though I never
Sent a thank you
Card or text but hope
This poem-memory
Is my praise for a
Woman who put
Plain common
Sense over
Routine
Regs.
Such people
Make the world
A better place to live.
