Guess

I am 53
Sitting on
The exam table
In my doctor’s office,
I am friends with my doctor
Whom I have known for thirty
Years and he is droning on
Pontificating his guess as
To some medical point
About what’s causing
Some discomfort so
When he concludes
I smile and tell him
Well, your guess
Is as good as
Mine which
Causes
Him to
Smile
As he knows
How true that is
In any diagnosis but
I will of course take his
Advice since if you have
A good guide you oughta
Listen a wilderness packing
Precept I have always followed.
Same goes for politics, plain
Common sense is the best
Guide once you disregard
All the lies exaggerations
And prejudice on each
Side to get down to
The character of
The candidates.
Poor character
Is a fire bell in
The night, to
Trust a liar
Is asking
For trouble.
But, I guess
You know that.
