Storm
My eldest sister
Is babysitting during
A thunderstorm nothing
Too scary until the lights go
Out and we are mostly little kids.
The lightning flashes and we count
The seconds until the thunder tells
Is how far away the lightning bolt
Struck a scientific experiment we
Tracked until the lights went out
And the seconds seemed much
Shorter and the thunder louder
Seeming in the dark to shake
The walls as the wind blew
Leaves against the glass
In the windows huddling
In the bathroom with
A candle flickering
In the sink safe
From causing
A fire but
Leaving
Melted
Wax
Until
The lights
Came on and
We watched TV
Sid Caesar Milton Berle
And if we stayed awake Groucho.
