Big Bend
I am thirtyish
Driving into the
Big Bend Basin camp
Ground in December as
The radio stops receiving
A signal about an approaching
Norther so my wife and I hammer
Down tent pegs and secure our
Tent and campsite to the vocal
Amusement of those camping
Around us and that night the
Wind roars and the desert
Basin stands up on its
Hind legs until dawn
Brings calm but
Colder clarity
And we heat
Hot tea and
Honey as
We smile
At the
Tents
Blown into
The cactus
Patches and
Rolled up by the
Wind and rain now
Freezing wave to the
Damp campers who found
Our precautions so amusing
Then we tent up snug and warm
Waiting for the winter sun to shine.
