Books II
I am thirtyish
Teaching night
Classes in college
When the son of my
Campus supervisor and
Friend dies of a sudden onset
Of virulent flu which devastates
Her so she sets up a library book
Fund at our campus for donations
In honor of her dead son who was
One of my best students as was
His younger brother so since I
Have just published a game
On the Texas Revolution
That sells surprisingly
Well I decide to shop
For books to give to
The memorial fund
At our campus so
Entering Barnes
And Noble I get
To wander the
History area
Picking one
Book after
Another.
Weeks
Later I am
Back to buy
More books for
The memorial fund
As for the first time in
My life I have money to
Spend just as I please with
No if this then no that a freedom
Strange to me who had pinched
Pennys all my life and now has
The opportunity to spend on
A good cause which my
Students will benefit
From as they can
Use the books
I am buying
Thinking
I will be
At my
Campus
Forever a lesson
I have yet to learn that
Things change in life and
The security of the present
Is only for now as we cannot
Imagine the changes we will
Have to endure for good
Or bad but I have no
Regrets for all of
Those hooks
Since if not
My own
Students
Then others
Will benefit from
Good history books
Each book a friend we
Give ourselves and share
With others, books are friends
For life we can see from new
Perspectives when we re-
Read them decades
Later seeing what
We missed the
First time to
Learn all
Truth is
Relative to
Our perspective.
And, fun to buy books!
