Talk for the sake of getting to
Know someone a little better
As we both reveal our life
Story bit of news to one
Another not for gain or
Self-interest but just
To relax and share
Conversation to
Hear them bit
By bit come
Out of the
Protocol
Of a
Formal
Interaction
And into the
Pleasant exchange
Of where are you and
How is the weather and
So you lived there too or
Why is it in southern
California men
Wear shorts
But women
Wear the
Pants.
Why are
There so many
Young men there
Who can’t handle a
Relationship or commit
To more than ocean swims.
Why can’t folks in the
Rest of the USA be
As friendly as we
Are down here
In Texas or
Once in
Awhile
They
Ask
Me if
Talking
Face to face
To join them for
A sit-down meal so
We can all chat some
More and be friends as
One gentleman retired from
The police said to me
“Want a friend,
Need a friend.”
I’ve known
Him for
40 years.
