Hello

What follows on hello,
Who have we met,
Where will it go,
All follow from hello.
I did not know
When I first said
Hello to her,
Now we are bound
By ties of affection
And our history.
How dry a word for
The emotional
Roller coaster that
We call a relationship.
Who knew what
Would happen,
Or whose lives
We would impact.
Or how we would
Cherish each other.
I wonder at how
Our lives turn
On a simple greeting.
If I had it to do again,
I would still say hello.
