Window

The first light of
Dawn reveals the
Outline of a huge
Pine tree with branches
Grown heavy over time
Held upwards in a tangle
Too overlapping to separate
Which goes where,
A home for birds squirrels
Cats and other critters.
I watch from bed
As the light brightens
Bringing the tree into
Three-dimensional focus,
How beautiful to behold
A tree here before this
House or neighborhood
Or even this beach town.
I go downstairs to the
Backyard garden to sit
In the shade of this pine,
Warm in my old sweater
Inhaling the scents from
Garden while I sip a cup
Of tea and read waiting
For Carol to rise,
I have already fed the cats
And Rosie our dog.
I have become part
Of the view through
Our bedroom window,
Looking up to see Carol
Smiling down at me.
