Good Morning

She wakes
Turns her head
Toward me in the
First light of day
Through the trees
Backlighting branches,
Rain is falling pattering
Outside the open window.
Her hair is auburn
Her eyes blue
Her complexion pale
Her covers pulled up
To her chin and smile,
Our dog on her feet
Our cat in the chair
Next to the bed,
She looks at me
Reading by nite lite
Looking over at her,
Her gaze holds me
For several seconds
Then she tells me
Good morning,
I smile replying
Good morning,
We both know
We will have a
Good morning
Each day we
Begin together.
Though of course
We perceive each
Other from separate
Realities, we do touch
Across with a smile
And a good morning,
Since we can communicate
Surely there is hope for
Love between all
If only we smile
And say from
The heart
Good morning.
Though of course
We do not respond
To calls or door knocks
Until well after ten o’clock
Following a breakfast
Of TV news coffee or
Tea and a bit of hot
Buttered toast
Blackberry jam
or marmalade
Sharing a new
Newspaper,
Reading to
Each other.
