Mom Dad daughter all
Sitting at table with me
In Matamoros on the Rio
Grande eating Mexican
Food as she tells me of
A young man who told
Her she looked buffed.
She wonders what he
Meant as she’s been
In Spain for study I
Reply it was a
Compliment
But she is
Fishing
For
More
Which
Intrigues me
As she is next
To her parents both
Sharp cookies leaving
Me to guess they are letting
Her pose the question to me
In order to get me to urge
Their daughter not to let
Herself be too guided
By appearing buffed
But keep her eye on
Improving her mind
By a more formal
Education at a
Big university
She may fix
On only her
Looks not
Her mind
Which
I duly urge
Pointing out
Buffed attracts
Shallow men while
Her mind if buffed will
Attract a better mate
Which is not true as
Attraction is based
On many things
But a fine mind
Ain’t one of
Them but
I cannot
