Tea

I am 64
Sailing on
A cruise ship
Some dam ship
Around the Pacific
With my wife whose
Dementia limits her but
Does not stop her enjoying
What she can onboard and on
Shore so I suggest we take tea at
3 pm in the formal dining room a
Treat surprisingly new each
Time as we select new
Teas but most of all
We go for cookies
Of all kinds in a
Variety with no
End but I do
Search for
The short
Bread
Cookies
Though the
Almond lemon
Coconut chocolate
Soft and crunchy vanilla
Raspberry in endless variety.
I load a table napkin with
A dozen cookies to take
To our two trusty room
Stewards who are
Gobsmacked by
Such a treat
And carry
Off the
Plunder for
Treats and trade
Below decks after their
Shift though I do notice they
Sample several as they depart.
Now at 74 I bring a box of
Oatmeal raisin cookies
To the guardhouse
Staff at April
Sound as a
Patrolled
Gate and
Perimeter is
A help in old age
My Roman army camp
Safe every night and day
As I am a logistical hold over
One of the last cookie cavaliers.
